Description
THE GLENALLACHIE CHINQUAPIN VIRGIN OAK 10Y 70CL
The GlenAllachie Chinquapin Virgin Oak 10-Year-Old (70cl) is a bold expression from the distillery’s Virgin Oak Series. Basically, this unique single malt begins its maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Where it develops its base character. Afterward, GlenAllachie transfers it to casks made from Chinquapin Oak (Quercus Muehlenbergii). A rare wood sourced from the Ozarks in Missouri. The Chinquapin oak imparts distinctive spicy and aromatic notes, enriching the whisky’s depth.
The oak is air-dried for up to four years before it is medium-toasted. Allowing the spirit to draw complex flavors from the wood. This secondary maturation lasts for approximately 18 months. And deepens the whisky’s mahogany color while enhancing its flavor profile. Bottled at 48% ABV, this whisky retains its full, unfiltered character with no added coloring.
Tasting Notes
Firstly, on the nose, the whisky greets you with a burst of orchard fruits, particularly citrus zest. Heather honey and pecan add a warm, inviting sweetness. While a hint of baking spices—cinnamon and nutmeg—round out the bouquet. As you breathe it in, there’s also a faint trace of butterscotch and liquorice. Adding complexity to the experience.
Then, the palate follows with a rich and spicy profile. You’ll first taste a wave of cinnamon and barley sugar, followed by toasted biscuits and a gentle bitterness. Flavors of rose hips, orange peel, and a touch of heather honey emerge, creating a dynamic and zesty mouthfeel. The finish is long and satisfying. With a lingering sweetness that mingles with hints of vanilla and a subtle, earthy spice.
Overall, GlenAllachie Chinquapin Virgin Oak 10-Year-Old is an exceptional whisky. Its bold, spicy flavors from the Chinquapin oak are beautifully balanced by the sweetness of honey and fruit. Making it a memorable choice for whisky enthusiasts.
