THE DALMORE VINTAGE 1995 20Y 70CL
This 20-year-old Dalmore single malt, distilled in 1995, underwent a finishing period in casks that previously held intensely sweet Sauternes wine. This special edition release joined the range of bottlings celebrated during La Maison du Whisky’s 60th Anniversary.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich and complex. The influence of the Sauternes shines dazzlingly while remaining wonderfully reserved and mellow. The aroma reveals a remarkable juicy sweetness with pineapple and William pear. The scent evolves between oak and candied grapes, complemented by a mild chocolatey and herbaceous bitterness, featuring sage and vervain. As the fruity notes build, honey, noble spices, and heady florals like mimosa and broom crescendo.
Palate: Lively and clean. The initial taste bursts with intense fruitiness from grapes and melon, with notes of vanilla and liquorice. Mid-palate, fine hints of chocolate blend with red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry. The profile becomes increasingly voluptuous and creamy. The malted barley eventually takes prominence, striking a perfect balance between the Sauternes wine and the grain. The flavor palette showcases tremendous charm and magnificence.
Finish: Silky and enveloping. The finish maintains remarkable freshness with divine chocolatey and roasted notes of coffee and tobacco. It transitions into a powdery cocoa texture, spiced with cardamom, and floral with lime blossom and mint. Retro-nasal olfaction reveals juicy citrus fruits like orange and tangerine, along with infusions of tea and lime blossom. The empty glass offers a camphoric aroma, evoking the Dalmore’s shadowy cellars.
