Chivas Regal launched its first blend in 1909. It quickly became popular in the US. Prohibition briefly stopped its success. Seagram, a Canadian distiller, saw an opportunity.
In 1949, Seagram acquired Chivas Brothers. They added Strathisla to their portfolio. They built three more distilleries. Seagram also acquired Campbell Distillers and The Glenlivet Distillers. This move made them one of the largest whisky companies in Scotland. In the early 2000s, the Seagram empire collapsed.
Pernod-Ricard acquired Chivas Brothers. They also bought Allied Domecq, including the Ballantine’s brand. Today, Chivas produces two of the top three selling blends globally. Its distillery portfolio, with Glenlivet as its flagship, rivals Diageo’s.
Chivas Regal has released a limited edition 18-year-old. It is exclusive to Travel Retail. It is finished in first fill French Oak casks.
