BELL’S PRINCE WILLIAM’S BIRTH 1982 50CL

The Bell’s porcelain decanter, released to commemorate the birth of Prince William of Wales on June 21st, 1982, embodies a rich history.

Originally conceived in the 1920s from blue glass. Its design evolved into porcelain with a bell shape by the late 1940s.

That production was meticulously handled by Carvendale’s. A small Edinburgh firm subcontracting to Peebles, led by a Polish ex-prisoner of war.

Each decanter, crafted from self-colored pottery. Also, featured hand-lettered gold detailing and included a clapper at its base.

By the early 1950s, Royal Doulton took over production, followed by Spode in 1960 and Wade in 1966.

A bespoke blend of select whiskies, including malt from Blair Athol and Pittyvaich until 1993. It was created exclusively for these decanters.

Arthur Bell & Sons, originating in Perth in 1851. And solidified its reputation in the 1930s by acquiring prominent distilleries like Blair Athol and Dufftown. Further bolstering its stature in the Scotch whisky industry.

Basically, Bell’s blended whisky, with its enduring slogan “Afore ye go,” gained global acclaim.

Particularly in Scotland where Bell’s Extra Special became the top-selling brand by the 1970s.

As a result, acquired by Guinness in 1985 and subsequently by DCL, Bell’s blends continue under the stewardship of Diageo today. Maintaining their legacy of quality and craftsmanship in every decanter produced.
