Glenkinchie distillery, situated near Pencaitland village in the Kinchie burn glen of East Lothian. It was founded in 1837 by local farmers John and George Rate. It’s one of six distilleries in the Lowland region. Benefiting from the nearby Lammermuir hills for fresh water.
Acquired by United Distillers in 1989 and now part of Diageo’s portfolio. Glenkinchie celebrates HM Queen Elizabeth II’s 75th Birthday with its 2001 decanter release.
Queen Elizabeth II, born on April 21, 1926. She ascended to the throne in 1952 after the death of her father, George VI, on February 6, 1952.
She married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Quite soft and gentle, with malted barley, hints of cut herbs, and a fresh floral note. Cereal and grist with a touch of honey.
Palate: Smooth and medium-bodied, featuring barley and cereals, nut oils, subtle wood, and spice.
Finish: Short, with notes of fruitcake and a hint of smoke.
