Tasting Notes
On the nose, the whisky greets you with a wave of complexity. At first, hints of gingerbread, cinnamon, and speculoos are evident. These are soon followed by roasted chestnuts and toasted oak, adding depth. Additionally, a touch of fennel and leafy notes emerge, providing a unique freshness. The underlying presence of ginger and aniseed rounds out the scent, giving it a pleasant, spicy finish.
When tasted, the whisky is initially sharp and alcoholic. However, it soon reveals layers of flavor. The first impression is that of pinewood and a robust sherry influence. This transitions to stewed fruits, notably figs and dates, before evolving into flavors of raisins, bitter chocolate, and espresso coffee. Further exploration of the palate uncovers herbal notes of cloves, rosemary, and juniper, with a touch of menthol offering a refreshing finish.
The finish is medium-long, with tannic notes that linger. The whisky introduces an exciting blend of chili peppers and nutmeg, culminating in a hint of chicken masala. This spicy finish highlights the influence of the Chinquapin oak and the depth it adds to the whisky.
The GlenAllachie 2010 Chinquapin Barrel 70cl is a limited-edition release that embodies innovation and craftsmanship.
