TASTING NOTES
Firstly, the nose immediately presents rich, clear sherry aromas. Dark fruits such as plums, dates, and raisins lead the charge. Additionally, nutty hints of lightly roasted hazelnuts and almonds follow, adding layers of warmth. Soon, malt, honey, and chocolate emerge. A subtle orange note comes and goes, enhancing the depth of the scent. Over time, spicier elements surface. Leather, damp tobacco, and wet wood add earthy complexity.
Then, on the palate, the experience starts sweet. Brown sugar and malt dominate the entry. Then, dark caramel enriches the flavor profile. The Oloroso sherry influence shines through with plums, nuts, and subtle spices. A splash of water reveals more malt and brings out cinnamon, pepper, and cardamom. The mouthfeel is creamy and soft, making it smooth and approachable despite the high ABV.
Finally, the finish is long and warm. A sweet, spicy quality evolves into a more refined espresso-like character. The spices are not overwhelming but linger delicately. A dry, nutty flavor remains, providing a satisfying conclusion.
This GlenAllachie 2009 is unique due to its Marsala cask maturation. It brings together tropical fruits, rich caramel, and complex oak spices. Notes of mocha, demerara sugar, and citrus add vibrancy to the profile. With its luxurious texture and robust flavors, this single cask release is an exceptional expression of GlenAllachie’s craft.
