The Glenallachie 2005 Single Cask 16-Year-Old is a unique and exceptional Speyside whisky. Glenallachie distillery bottled it directly as part of their exclusive Single Cask series. Distilled on February 9, 2005, the whisky matured for 16 years in a Madeira barrique cask, which imparted a distinctive character. The distillery bottled it in March 2021, under cask number 3755. This release is limited to just 298 bottles, with bottle number 285 being a part of this rare collection.

Tasting Notes:
Nose:
The nose immediately reveals the influence of the Madeira cask. Despite the high ABV, the alcohol integrates well with the aromas. It begins with rich vanilla, cookie dough, and honey-glazed vanilla muffins, complemented by some barley and breakfast cereal notes. Soon after, the Madeira cask takes the lead with fresh raspberries, dark chocolate, and a bold oak bitterness, all rounded out with hints of espresso.
Taste:
The taste is exceptionally smooth. Vanilla shines through initially, accompanied by sugar, maple syrup, and more cookie dough. The wine influence sharpens the experience, introducing tannins, which are then replaced by the comforting taste of muffin sweetness.
Finish:
The finish brings forward lots of white chocolate and a continued sweetness, followed by nutty flavors that leave a mouthwatering sensation. Cocoa and espresso notes deepen the complexity, while strong oak undertones develop. Finally, the red wine cask influence emerges, revealing raisins and a rich, dark berry sweetness.
