This bottle contains 75cl and has a strength of 40% ABV. James Buchanan & Co. Limited, the proprietors of Black & White Scotch Whisky, blended and bottled this in the 1970s.
James Buchanan, born in Ontario, Canada in 1849, moved to Scotland to work for Charles Mackinlay & Co. After starting his own company in 1884, Buchanan and W.P. Lowrie created the Buchanan Blend using Dalwhinnie, Clynelish, and Glendullan. They designed this blend to appeal to the English palate, leading it to become the drink of choice in the House of Commons bar.
The success of the blend led Buchanan to rename it after the institution. Known for its distinctive monochrome packaging, Black & White whisky became the official brand name in 1902. The company merged with John Dewar & Sons in 1915 to form Buchanan-Dewar, which later became part of DCL in 1925. Today, Diageo continues to produce these blends.
