Balvenie Double Wood 12Y 70CL this 12 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. Overs its period of maturation The Balvenie Doublewood is transferred from a traditional American oak whisky cask to a Spanish oak cask which has previously held sherry. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt – the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.

Description

Balvenie Double Wood 12Y 70CL is matured in a mixture of former Bourbon (or “whisky oak” as the distillery calls them) and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, this is a whisky that exudes balance and complexity. After maturation, the whiskies are married together for between 3 and 4 months in large wooden vessels called “tuns”, a classic Balvenie touch.

Tasting Notes:
NOSE: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.
TASTE: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
FINISH: Long and Warming
