Description
THE ARRAN SMUGGLERS SERIES V3 – THE EXCISEMAN 70CL
In this final installment of our popular Smugglers’ Series. Basically, we pay tribute to the audacious individuals who sought to outwit the Government’s representatives in their pursuit of producing the renowned Arran Waters.
The Cask Influence
Evidently, for this volume, we’ve used Madeira casks similar to those once utilized by Arran’s illicit distillers.
These old Madeira casks were often employed to store and transport locally produced whisky. They are having been brought over from the continent by their smuggling counterparts.
The Quarter Casks nod to the small casks that would have been easiest to transport. And adding an extra layer of historical authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Firstly, the aroma is immediately rich and honeyed, offering a luxuriously decadent experience. Fresh coastal notes are also evident, complemented by apples, vanilla, and a subtle touch of spice with a hint of toasted oak.
Palate:
Then, on the palate, the whisky coats the tongue with an abundance of apple and vanilla notes. It avoids dryness, instead growing in sweet intensity and providing a rounded mouthfeel. Adding water reveals a lighter sweetness of candied lemon, enhancing the complexity beautifully.
Finish:
In the end, the finish is long and luxurious, yet delightfully fresh. Notes of apple and citrus impart a lightness of character, while the body remains solidly complex and robust. This expression presents a typical Arran profile with an added layer of sweetness, making it a fitting end to the series.
