Description
BENRIACH ALBARIZA 1st Edition 18Y 70CL (Billy Walker)
It stands out as a remarkable single malt in the distillery’s heavily peated lineup.
Initially matured in American oak casks. This whisky then undergoes a finishing period in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, creating a unique depth of flavor.
Basically, the name ‘Albariza’ references the white chalky soil found in Andalucia, Spain, known for its role in sherry production. Therefore, this soil type plays a crucial role in the whisky’s finishing process.
With only 3,886 bottles released, this limited production whisky appeals to both investors and collectors. It meets high standards of quality, remaining non-chill filtered and presented in its natural color.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet dates and ripe figs merge with heather honeyed peat smoke, evolving into hints of dried herbs and sweet barley.
Color: Rich burnt amber.
Palate: The whisky offers a sweet, sherried character with layers of vanilla, chocolate, and rum-soaked raisins, enveloped in intense campfire peat smoke. Subtle white pepper and stem ginger add warmth.
Finish: The long finish features oily, cinnamon, orange, and woody notes.
The combination of dark stewed fruits from the sherry and the distinctive peated profile of BenRiach creates a complex and flavorful aged peated dram.
